This report combines the latest the industry findings together with AirAdvice’s database of Indoor Environment and Building Performance. It defines the current state of HVAC system performance in North America. The recommendations included in this report will give you what you need to deliver the best level of comfort at the lowest possible cost.
The AirAdvice Indoor Environment and Building Performance Database is a powerful resource that identifies the effectiveness of ventilation and temperature controls. Valuable data from our detailed study of over 200 commercial buildings included in this report show that:
- Over 80% of sites surveyed showed evidence of over-ventilation – Improving ventilation control offers a significant potential for energy savings, up to 40% in many cases.
- Less than half of sites surveyed measured temperatures within the ideal ± 2 °F from the specified set point – The potential exists for energy savings of up to 20% if more precise temperature control at the specified set point could be achieved.
- Over 50% of buildings experienced temperature swings of greater than 5 °F during the occupied period – There is a direct relationship to temperature variation and comfort complaints. Based on ASHRAE comfort models the predicted rate of dissatisfaction is as high as 30% when the temperature swings are greater than 5 F.
This report helps you understand the return on your investment when conducting your own building assessments; assessments that can give you the measurements you need to significantly reduce operating costs while, at the same time, improving occupant satisfaction. These results of your own assessments can also become the foundation to qualify for United States Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (USGBC LEED®) certification and United States Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star rating.
